Best Day of My Life

Although I have a poor memory for dates, often misremembering when events happened by years, I can tell you exactly where I was and what I was doing 19 years ago today:

That's an armful. Somehow in the intervening years my hair has gone gray; I can't imagine why. Happy Birthday, Chiquitas, we'll see you this afternoon. Pizza's on Mom and me.

Sometimes, I find myself drawn to the simplest possible
way of explaining what may count in rearing children:
your children are either the center of your
life or they're not, and the rest is commentary.

Here's hoping the pizza was up to the task!

Happy, happy, joy, joy to all of you, from Fort Harrington.

Oh, and Mike Lynch: looking like you're 12 when your children are born seems to be an earmark of those of us who have some astronomy schoolin': here's me with my firstborn. (about 20 years earlier than Brian's picture, but you can see the essential callow similarity).

Oh, I did much better. I look almost 14 in the pictures of me and my firstborn. And, appropriately, I looked 17 when his little brother was born!

I think you have to have children when you're young; anyone older should know better.

I think we had a pretty great party. I especially enjoyed the part where I passed out on the dorm couch from blowing up too many balloons. Good times, good times!

As we say in Newfoundland:

"Awwwwwwwwwwww, luh!!!"

(It's our dialectical [?] way of saying, "Awwwwwwwwww, look!" Or, as the joke goes:

Q: "What does a Newfoundlander say when he sees a moose?"
A: "Luh! Luh!"
Q: "What does a Newfoundlander say when he sees a baby moose?"
A: "Awwwwwwwwwwww! Luh!")

No baby moose here, only two beautiful baby girls and one baby dad. What a charming, sweet picture.

(Belated) Happy Birthday, girls!

Ronnie, they were charming and sweet. Then they grew up.

Sigh.
