I built this contraption Saturday afternoon:
Any guesses what it's for? (My girls are ineligible.)

Begun online in 2004 and published by Abrams in 2006, "Mom's Cancer" won the 2005 Eisner Award for Best Digital Comic, the 2007 Lulu Blooker Prize, the 2007 Harvey Award for Best New Talent, and the 2007 German Youth Literature Prize for non-fiction. It was nominated for a 2006 Quill Book Award, a 2006 Cybil Literary Award, the American Library Association's "2007 Best Books for Young Adults" Award, and two 2007 Eisner Awards. I am as surprised as anyone.

Hah! So that's what it's gonna look like!
Oooo...neat-o...
Looks like a part of a medieval torture device
Well, it's not fast enough to be for stripping paint while you sit back and enjoy a cold one. If you had a large dog, it could be an automatic dog-skritcher, though it would be better then if it were mounted so the dog could lie under it rather than beside it.
It's one of them there newfangled sock dryers. I got me one just like it from Sears for the missus, but you can find 'em on eBay alls the time too.

Ah, so many fine, insightful replies! I should have more to reveal, including the answer, in a couple of days. Don't let that stop you from posting more guesses....
I hope it's not an editor-motivator.
